Welcome to the BMC Blog!

Blue Mountain Center’s 2011 season officially opened on April 18th, amid torrents of rain, lighter but later than usual dumps of snow, and preparations for what turned out to be an amazing work weekend. Four days of old and new friends,  annual and new projects (some unexpected, thanks to regional flooding,), and great food for our labors. Most of our volunteers braved arrival by boat—row and motor—to reach us (the bridges were being repaired, but are now back!)

Peas and lettuce were planted, leaves raked, windows washed,  and the “email center” moved above ground (let there be light.) Thanks to all who came and participated in the surge of beautification, mending and camaraderie. Where would we be without you?

A few pictures, for those who could not be with us:

Conference season is now in full swing and between serving lunch, building fires, and listening in, we’re hiding behind computers as we anxiously await the inevitable invasion of Black Flies. (Everyone but immune Ben.)

This is all to say, hello, and welcome to our blog! We’re hoping it will be a good forum for keeping you updated on what’s in the works here at BMC. You can also stay on top of alum happenings and post your own events on our Facebook page.

About Blue Mountain Center

The Center is a turn-of-the century Adirondack lodge in a pristine and peaceful setting of woods, lakes and mountains. Life at Blue Mountain Center is organized to maintain privacy and quiet. The atmosphere is informal and cooperative. Writers are lodged in individual bedroom/studies in the Main House or the Grey Cottage; visual artists and composers have separate studios. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. Linens and laundry facilities are provided. The amenities of the Center, including a tennis court, lakes, boats and hiking trails, promise even the most diligent worker diversion and relaxation. The telephone is considered something of an outsider at the Center. There is a phone for guests' use, as well as a computer with email access and a laptop connection. To foster serenity, TV and cellular phones are not welcome.
